Trimovate cream is a topical treatment containing three active ingredients. Clobetasone butyrate, (a steroid), oxytetracycline (an antibiotic) and nystatin (an antifungal).
Trimovate cream is used for the treatment of certain skin conditions such as eczema (atopic, seborrhoeic and contact dermatitis), psoriasis, fungal infections, nappy rash, intertrigo and impetigo.
It is available with a prescription only. Now Patient offers Trimovate cream as a treatment for psoriasis only, following an online consultation with a prescribing clinician.

Who is Trimovate cream not suitable for?
Trimovate cream may not be suitable for some people. To make sure it’s safe for you, speak to the prescribing clinician before using Trimovate cream if you:
- Have an allergy to any of the active ingredients in Trimovate cream, or the inactive ingredients such as titanium dioxide, cetostearyl alcohol, soft paraffin white, polyoxyl 40 stearate, glycerol, or chlorocresol
- Have a viral infection of the skin
- Have skin lesions caused by a bacterial, yeast or fungal infection
- Have rosacea or acne
- Have a skin infection caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Streptococcus B, Pseudomonas species, or Serratia species

Trimovate cream is available from a number of sources. It is available on prescription or over the counter at a pharmacy.

Information about how to use Trimovate cream for psoriasis
Wash the affected area with soap and water before applying Trimovate. Apply a thin layer of Trimovate cream to the affected area(s) once or twice a day. Rub the cream in until fully absorbed. Wash your hands after using the cream. Read the patient information leaflet supplied with your medication.
What happens if you use too much Trimovate cream?
If you use more than prescribed, then it can lead to some unpleasant side effects. You should talk to your doctor or reach out to one of our prescribing clinicians, if you have used too much Trimovate cream and you experience any of the following side effects.
What are the side effects of Trimovate cream?
Possible side effects include:
- Skin reactions such as redness, irritation, or burning
- Acne or other skin problems
- Skin thinning
- Increased hair growth
- Stretch marks
- Changes in skin colour
- Inflammation of hair follicles
- Contact dermatitis
Serious side effects include:
- Glaucoma, if the medication gets into your eyes

If you experience a serious allergic reaction with the signs shown below you should contact emergency services on 999.
- Your lips, mouth, throat or tongue suddenly become swollen
- You’re breathing very fast or struggling to breathe (you may become very wheezy or feel like you’re choking or gasping for air)
- Your throat feels tight or you’re struggling to swallow
- Your skin, tongue or lips turn blue, grey or pale (if you have black or brown skin, this may be easier to see on the palms of your hands or soles of your feet)
- You suddenly become very confused, drowsy or dizzy
- Someone faints and cannot be woken up

There is not enough evidence to suggest there are any drug interactions between herbal supplements and Trimovate cream. In any event, you should let your prescribing clinician know if you are taking any herbal supplements.
Can Trimovate cream used for psoriasis be used long term?
You are advised to not use Trimovate cream for prolonged periods of time. This is especially true for yoiunger patients, as it may cause adrenal suppression.
Is there a herbal Trimovate cream?
No. Herbal Trimovate cream does not exist. If you have been marketed such a formulation, it may be fake.
Can women use Trimovate cream?
Women can use Trimovate cream, but speak to a healthcare professional before using Trimovate cream if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
Should I avoid any particular food or drink when using Trimovate cream?
You can eat and drink normally when using Trimovate cream.
What lifestyle changes can I make to help me with psoriasis?
Modify your lifestyle in a number of ways. This may have a positive impact on your psoriasis.
- Reduce stress
- Reduce illnesses, especially strep infections
- Avoid skin injury
- Limit alcohol intake
- Stop smoking
- Avoid certain foods
- Use moisturisers and emollients
- Take antihistamines to ease the itching
